This issue starts with a California case awarding damages to a sub-subcontractor based on negligence. Along with the Lighting & Power Services case covered in our January 19, 2004 issue (Vol. 2 - No. 3), this case represents another victory for subs and lower-tier contractors in recovering total cost damages from general contractors. Our second case is of major concern to developers and general contractors, as treble damages were awarded for construction defects that could just as well have been repaired.
This month's Tips and Techniques is the first of a two-part Excel tutorial for productivity analysis and claims support. Excel’s Pivot Table feature is designed for taking data from an accounting report, such as employee hours, and converting it into a format that allows ready analysis and charting.
